External-pressure headache

Medically reviewed by Dr. Emma Foster, 17 May 2021

Pressure headache results from sustained compression or traction against the head, for example wearing a tight headband, goggles, or having a tight ponytail that pulls against the scalp. The pain is worse at the site of compression and will resolve usually within one hour after the source of the pain is removed.
