Psychiatric disorders & headache have a complex relationship, as people with psychiatric disorders (such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, etc) often experience headache as a comorbidity. However, it is not always apparent if there is a strictly causal relationship between the two problems, and normally it is best to treat the two as separate but related afflictions. In other cases, psychiatric disorders may be clearly causing headache – for example, people that experience psychosis may have a delusion that involves headache, such as believing they’ve suffered a head injury.
